Become a mentor
Each child will then be matched with their Special Friends Sports mentor and No.1 sports fan.
The sports mentor will be introduced to the child and their caregivers. They will then support the child in the following ways depending on what each individual child needs to be able to play sport.
Liase with the appropriate sports club and coaches to enrol the child in the sport.
Organise payment of sports fees for the term or season with the club.
Organise appropriate equipment required for the child to play that sport.
Communicate to the child and caregivers when practices and games will be.
Transport the child to their sports practice and games if required
Help the child feel welcome to the club and introduce them to other children and their families.
Keep in touch regularly with the child and their coach to ensure everything is going well.
Watch and support the child during games and competitions
Help the child feel that they belong and are a valued member of their team.
Encourage the child to participate fully and be a good sports person.
